The French Ban Of The Hijab
The French Ban Of The Hijab The wearing of the hijab or also called the Islamic headscarf has been a point of convergence in numerous conversations and an exceptionally begging to be proven wrong subject in France. Since the time the France restricted the wearing of Islamic scarves in 2004, there has been a range of issues that emerge especially in three related regions: religion, self-personality of a Muslim hidden lady, and the national character of France. What does the tern hijab mean? What is the national personality of France and how can it see the hijab? What establishes to the headscarf boycott? In this paper, I intend to talk about the ramifications of the conflict between Frances national character and the developed personality of wearing the headscarf for French Muslim ladies. Also, I examine about the repercussion of the headscarf boycott, for example, separation looked by the female Muslim understudies at schools. For the investigation of this paper, I center just around the Islamic headscarf boycott however other religion images are restricted in France, for example, the Jewish skullcaps and Christian crosses. The writing survey frontal areas the previously mentioned three inquiries. Foundation Literature Review A confounding cluster of positions has been taken about the connection between wearing the hijab and Islam over the ongoing years. (Winter, 2008) For a few, it denotes the strict image of Islam and definitely turns into a natural piece of a womans personality. Strict researchers have stated that Islamic law expects ladies to wear the hijab, a headscarf covering their ears, hair and neck.(Wiles, 2007) Relating to this view, Muslim ladies in this way accept wearing the hijab is a commitment under the edict of the Quran. Initially, the term hijab implied drape or partition which signified to avoid see. Wearing the headscarf, demonstrates that underneath it is a lady and without it, Sheik Al-Hilali as refered to in (Winter, 2008) is revealed meat to eyes of the men who become felines, and subsequently can't be accused for provocation meaning womans shortcoming. (H.Sinno, 2009) states that wearing the hijab may fill in as a womans liberation and strengthening. Despite what might be expect ed, French liberal sticklers see the wearing of hijab as a marker of female and strict persecution influencing a womans self-sufficiency (Laborde, 2006) that negates with the rule of secularism. Secularism is shapes some portion of the national character of France, a nation that disdained the power of the Catholic Church following quite a while of strict fight. The underlying foundations of secularism can be reviewed over into early radicalism and its concise spotlight on comprehensiveness, sanity and individual self-rule (Asad 2003; Yavuz and Esposito 2003) as refered to in (Gã ¶kariksel Mitchell, 2005). In a general sense signifying, it expects to isolate state and religion significance being unbiased in religion with the goal that a law based republic is framed. Along these lines, according to secularism, strict prominent images cast strict contrasts onto people that should be objective and equivalent. (Gã ¶kariksel Mitchell, 2005)As such, the wearing of hijab is seen to show a non-common articulation which bit by bit started the boycott. The French law forced a boycott for forbidding all plain strict images which produced results on March 2004. (Kiersh) The law is an adjustment to part of the French Code of Education that establishes the standard of mainstream quality. As referenced, France is a self-proclaimed mainstream state and the habits which government funded schools are run are legitimately affected by that idea. The debate of the headscarf boycott began with a choice embraced by a secondary school dean in Creil who ousted three female Muslim understudies wearing the hijab on eighteenth September, 1989. Inside seven days, his choice was toppled. The Education Minister, Lionel Jospin , looked for legitimate feeling and the Council expressed that the option to wear the headscarf was in agreement to the standard of secularism and was lawfully basic of French residents essential tenet rights to practice the opportunity of articulation and religion. Moreover, it tends to be audited that the wearing of such a stric t image ought not be obvious such that prompts disturb request in schools. Afterward, the Council gave a course prompting that flashy components ought not be worn in schools. (Wiles, 2007) A progression of strains and anomalies worked up, for example, ethnic-related brutality which the administration accused on the nearness of strict images. As per (Wiles, 2007), in July 2003, President Chirac suggested the death of the law that bans strict images in state schools and contemplated that the primary reason for existing was to certify freedom and receptiveness to social decent variety, contending that the wearing of headscarf doesn't fit in this vision. Conversation By and large with the talks and readings, it very well may be analyzed that there is misrecognition of the French Muslim ladies with the French law of disallowing the wearing of strict headscarves. As (Tatum, 1997) features, there is a legendary standard that exists in the minority bunch which says, that isn't me and for this situation, if a Muslim lady who accepts that her religion expects her to wear the hijab, is constrained not to wear it to withstand the French law of secularism, at that point, that isn't her. Besides, by restricting her from doing so emphatically encroaches to her right side to that opportunity of religion and inner voice as indicated by the perspective on (Wiles, 2007). France as referenced is a multicultural society, yet as (Blum) features, multiculturalism is a resilience for and acknowledgment of the privilege of different gatherings to seek after their own social characters, yet which is being weakened in the impact of the boycott. The boycott doesn't have regard for and the enthusiasm for the social legacy of the Muslims, and in this way France can't be supposed to be a multicultural society, for there is racial segregation that surfaces from the boycott. Chirac expressed, Secularity is one of the republics incredible accomplishments. It assumes a vital job in social concordance and national union. We should not permit it to be debilitated (Fontanaud, 2003, Chirac urges Muslim headscarf boycott, para. 13) As referenced in the statement, the terms social amicability and national union are for sure sketchy as there have been social unrests because of the fights by the Muslims to encourage Chirac not to propose the law to implement the restriction. Speaking to the subordinate gathering, they feel deceived and decline to be obliged to surrender to such a boycott by the predominant gathering since they lose their strict personality; their pride and respect. (Taylor, 1994) A law on strict images in the school condition could slander an entire network, said Dalil Boubakeur, leader of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM). (Fontanaud, 2003, Chirac urges Muslim headscarf boycott, para. 17) I concur with Dalils feeling, as the criticism as referenced could bring about a natural decrease in the character of the religion in the talk of the French people group and the fights may mirror the Muslims response to re-recognition their personality, nobility and sense of pride. (Tatum, 1997) As indicated by (Fontanaud, 2003), Chirac dismissed the commissions proposition to stamp the sacred long stretches of minority religions, emphasizing that French understudies had numerous official days off. One of the minority beliefs incorporate Islam and thusly, shows visual impairment to their religion and its unacceptance. (Taylor, 1994) Looking back at the idea of secularism, one may address how can it grasp a majority rule society when it obviously differentiates the subordinate gatherings as far as strict practices, in spite of professing to advance social decent variety and social agreement. As such, it tends to be said that in France, do what the French do simply like the maxim goes in Rome, do what the Romans do to have Frenchness1 or to be known as a French resident, one must not wear the headscarf, if not, you are the different as (Tatum, 1997) puts it. In schools, French Muslims are put at a fix in the midst of this character battle among confidence and citizenship, and some are relied upon to bargain in wearing a handkerchief. (BBC, Muslim young lady shaves head over boycott , 2004) Touria includes: Its piece of who I am. Its not simply some piece of texture on my head. Its beginning and end. Individuals state that the ladies wear the cover that are accommodating however I think it is those ladies who are agreeable, on the grounds that it is the thing that men need, ladies half exposed. (BBC, 2004, French scarf boycott comes into power, para.3) Tourias proclamation plainly negates Sheik Al-Hilalis articulation as refered to in (Winter, 2008) that had been referenced before in my presentation, where it is absolutely up to the people conviction to wear the headscarf, whom for this situation, view it as speaking to who she seems to be (Tatum, 1997) and its had worth is substantially more than its material or capacity, neither does it speak to an indication of shortcoming to the male sex. Simultaneously, Touria exceptionally adjusts by wearing a handkerchief since she forgoes causing to notice herself or her religion, assuming this is the case, may confront racial separation in school and be barred as a part in that talk network. (BBC, French scarf boycott comes into power , 2004). In certain schools, the standard is severe to such an extent that, even a handkerchief isn't allowed. Cennet Doganey attests that she regards the French law and the Muslim law and shaves her head totally. The reason that prompted this was because of the way that she was wouldn't enter the class in spite of wearing a handkerchief and states, I regard the law however it didn't regard me. (BBC, Muslim young lady shaves head over boycott, 2004) To her, the French law segregates as substantial agents, for example, the deans by limiting her opportunity to practice the privileges of her religion because of the headscarf boycott in government funded schools. A few young ladies are in any event, being sent home which is advocated as being required to comply with the French law, that being one measurement yet another which introduces itself as a mainstay of discriminatio

How to Spot a Problem With Your Term Paper
How to Spot a Problem With Your Term PaperMany a student has gotten their term paper finished only to learn that they have left out very important information that they had not thought of. Being able to correctly get this information in the paper is difficult enough but getting it right is far more difficult. The main mistake is that students often tend to try and skip over the information that they would actually like to see in the paper. They do this in a few different ways. Often students simply do not think about the important details until they have skimmed through the paper in its entirety. This can leave important information, such as research in an earlier part of the paper. However if you make a habit of writing the information as you go through the term paper you are on, then you will easily be able to spot missing information. It will become obvious when the information you need is missing and you will be able to either turn the information in a later stage or even edit out the information completely. The first step in spotting a problem is to see if there is a basic way of marking out sections of the paper where it may be missing information. For example you may mark out information on one or two cells of a blank page. For example, if you were marking out the section that is marked out as being a paper on 'searching' you could just write this section off on the blank page as a non-existent section. You do not need to write anything on the paper as this simply leaves the paper at the beginning with empty space. If you were marking out an article on 'couples' in the paper for example, you could put the name of the couple in the first paragraph. In the second paragraph you could write the name of the couple again. This provides a simple way of marking out the section where the information may be missing. However if you don't do this and just fill in the information after it has been written, then you could simply endup with a word document.Another method o f finding the missing information is to record how much information you had left off in the paper. This is a slightly difficult to do but if you record where you had left things, you will find where they are left out. All you need to do is take a look at what you actually wrote. If you are sure that there are some areas that were left out, then you could record this information in a table format. If you find that you simply cannot produce a workable version of the paper, then you could speak to your proofreader. They may well be able to tell you where the problem areas lie. This is sometimes the case where you are having problems with grammar or spelling, for example. However you should always be as open to any suggestions as possible and try to gain your proofreader's input before rushing out and making a decision.

Imposter Syndrome in Medical School Recognizing What It Is and Overcoming It
Call it out I donââ¬â¢t deserve to be here. These people are actually smart. If they really knew me, theyââ¬â¢d know that I have no right to be here. One of these days, people will realize that Iââ¬â¢m a fraud. The admissions committee must have made a mistake. If youââ¬â¢ve had any of these thoughts since matriculating into medical school, congratulations. You are a normal human being. So, youââ¬â¢re afraid of being ââ¬Å"found outâ⬠. Nice! Did you know the Maya Angelou found herself feeling the same way? She once said, ââ¬Å"I have written eleven books, but each time I think, 'uh oh, theyââ¬â¢re going to find out now. Iââ¬â¢ve run a game on everybody, and theyââ¬â¢re going to find me out.'â⬠Lucky for you, thereââ¬â¢s a name for what youââ¬â¢re feeling: Thatââ¬â¢s right, imposter syndrome. From the moment you received your medical school acceptance letter in the mail, you have been experiencing internal push back that has to do with this achievement having anything to actually do with you. Even though youââ¬â¢ve been highly motivated since you came out of the womb, you canââ¬â¢t believe any of the praise that you have received. This is far from being modest. Youââ¬â¢re constantly looking over your shoulder for the other shoe to drop. The part where someone says ââ¬Å"gotcha!â⬠and tells you that your medical school acceptance was a joke. Youââ¬â¢re being held back by the thought that someone like you couldnââ¬â¢t possibly succeed, given what you know about yourself. How stupid, anxious, and incapable you truly are. If only people knew the real you! Itââ¬â¢s best you leave the possibility of triumph to others. Getting acclamation for being a medical student by family and friends makes you squeamish. You want to shush them because theyââ¬â¢re blowing your cover, but you resist the urge. Just wait until they find out I donââ¬â¢t know as much as they think. Faced with new responsibility and prestige, you conclude that youââ¬â¢re an imposter. Nothing more than an actor playing the part. The white coat with your name on it, the student ID that gets you through security at the hospital... itââ¬â¢s all a faà §ade. And someone will call you out on your bluff soon enough. You have never been so wrong. No mistake was made. You are not a fraud. You deserve to be here. Thereââ¬â¢s a reasonable explanation for all of this. You are experiencing imposter syndrome because you have an unrealistic view of what other people are really like. You know yourself from the inside, but you only know everyone else from the outside. Their more or less polished surface. So, the issue is not that you find yourself to be flawed. The issue is that you are failing to recognize how flawed everyone else is. That you think all these capable and admirable people around you could not be like you at all. If only you knew how similar you and your colleagues wereâ⬠¦ Imposter syndrome affects so many medical students. Itââ¬â¢s a plague and it doesnââ¬â¢t discriminate by institution or competency. While it may be difficult to break free from, you can overcome it. And hereââ¬â¢s how: Call it out Recognize that these ridiculous, undependable fears you are experiencing are a thing, not a you thing. Normalize it. Go ahead and call it by its name. Iââ¬â¢m going through some heavy imposter syndrome right now. Thatââ¬â¢s right. Confront those limiting beliefs of yours. Let them know that youââ¬â¢re totally onto them. Have a little faith Trust that you are not much different from your colleagues and that more likely than not, your minds work in the same way. In spite of what they may look like on the outside, believe that they are just like you. Because the reality is, you have no idea whatââ¬â¢s happening to them on the inside and youââ¬â¢re torturing yourself by assuming what comes out of their mouth always matches whatââ¬â¢s in their heads. Tell yourself that everyone must be as anxious and uncertain as you are. That even the most qualified people can be afflicted by self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy. Talk about it to others You are not alone so donââ¬â¢t be alone. Talking to others about your imposter syndrome will reveal just how common it is. Finding out that some of your peers are currently dealing with imposter syndrome or have dealt with it in the past can offer a lot of relief. It really is a thing, not a you thing. In opening up to an advisor or mentor, you may find that they too had a run in with imposter syndrome. Nothing beats being reassured by a person you hope to emulate. Own your successes You have a natural tendency to focus on what you havenââ¬â¢t done rather than what youââ¬â¢ve done. Glad to know youââ¬â¢ll never settle for mediocrity. But can you cut yourself some slack for just a second? You worked hard to get to where you are today, and you know it. Acknowledge that. You didnââ¬â¢t just get lucky. You are gifted. You are able. You belong. Accept yourself You donââ¬â¢t have to understand every medical school lecture or get a perfect score on every medical school exam to be worthy of the accolades you earn along the way. Donââ¬â¢t let your mind tell you otherwise. Stop with the comparisons Instead of preoccupying yourself with being the best, focus on doing your best. Some of the greatest people struggled with imposter syndrome. It is okay to occasionally (or regularly) feel that you arenââ¬â¢t [insert adjective here] enough. Just donââ¬â¢t give your fears the power to seep into your identity. You were meant to be a doctor. Itââ¬â¢s time to believe it. Are you interested in getting set up with an MD coach like Viemma? ;

In this paper I will further explain both of these fundamental terms, some of the major provisions of Sarbanes-Oxley Act and Dodd-Frank, and the pros and cons for some of the provisions targeted by the legislation. To conclude, I will also state where I stand personally and professionally on these issues. It all started at the beginning of the 21st century, with the findings of financial loopholes of companies we are very familiar with such as, Enron, WorldCom, and Arthur Andersen, which compelled Congress to pass the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, mostly known as SOX, on July 23, 2002. SOX adapted its name from its underwriters, Senator Paul Sarbanes and Michael G. Oxley. Due to all the commotion that h appened with Enron and WorldCom, investors and the public started to loose confidence and the economy was damaged by such arousal. Congress intentionsââ¬â¢ to pass this Act was to try to bring back investorââ¬â¢s confidence by enlightening the truthfulness and trustworthiness of corporate disclosures and financial statements. The Cask Of Amontillado By Edgar Allen Poe - 1167 Words
Edgar Allen Poeââ¬â¢s short story ââ¬Å"The Cask of Amontilladoâ⬠is essentially the story of a man, the narrator, Montresor who seeks revenge against a man named Fortunato who insulted him. Montresor meets Fortunato at a carnival, lures him into the tunnels, or catacombs under his home, and buries Fortunato alive. The two images that show the mood and tone of Poeââ¬â¢s story are captured in a simple, black and white comic strip style. The genre of the story translates differently and oddly into the images even though they are from the same world. One can interpret the story differently if they read the comic before the original print in the book and experiences can vary from person to person. Specific objects that stick out in the images can foreshadow what will be said and allow the reader to predict what will happen next. This story was written in first person creating a different sense of who side of the story is actually being told and blocks outs those who arenâ⠬â¢t the narrator. ââ¬Å"The Cask of Amontilladoâ⬠is a fascinating short story with a whirlpool of moods and tones, and combining that with a few images, it shows how much of a mastermind Poe is at writing short stories. The first image shows Montresor with a candle in his hand in the catacombs/tunnels where he buried Fortunato alive. Exploring Global Business Challenges from Multiple Perspectives
Question: Describe about the Exploring Global Business Challenges from Multiple Perspectives. Answer: Learning with Understanding The BUS 802 has played a critical role in assisting me to understand the world that we live in. After the study, it has been easier to understand the global challenges that face our economic world. It has been journey that helped me ascertain how technology can make or ruin the world today. On the other hand, it is clear that through innovation, human beings feel the freedom to be creative and put their talent into actions. Through artificial intelligence, and the innovativeness of people, there have been the creation of robotics that are developed with specific systems that instructs them what to do and when. These can today be used in industries where humans are working. If used for a long time, humans will have no place in the industries and they will be rendered jobless. The study has opened up my mind and I am thinking of better ways to save mankind from the joblessness they are about to experience. Global Challenge: Robot Economy (The Threat of Artificial Intelligence) Artificial intelligence has become a threat to humankind and to the entire 21st century. Considering the innovations that have created the labor saving technologies that destroy jobs and the entire industry, it has little benefits to the human beings. The biggest problem associated with artificial intelligence is that no one can dictate the nature of the future innovations. Even though many have been concerned of the labor saving technologies, very few governments will come out to ban them in favor of the domestic employment level. The human generation has a lot of expertise from various industries, law, entrepreneurship, science among others that has been under threat as a result of the highly innovation in the art of artificial intelligence. AI is threatening to replace the human efforts with the automated machines and robotics that are developed with installed instructions to handle the duties allocated to humans in the fields and in office. The politicians should start to get worried about the threats that are coming alongside the development of robotics. If not controlled, we will be living in a society where mankind will have no meaning at all. Even the politicians themselves will be meaningless as they will have no one to represent in a country where robotics will be the controllers of every industry. Much more, there will come a time when the systems in the robotics might fail and they will no longer operate under the initial instructions they were developed with. In this kind of situation, the robots might become destructive and no one will be able to control them. An example can be extracted from the film Stealth an American military fiction. In the film, the robots were given instructions to bomb a place but altered the instructions and bombed a different location. It can reach to that point when the robotics will stop following the instructions to work, and will otherwise become destructive and they will destroy even mankind. Politicians and the responsible departments should face the global challenge with a lot of concern. There should be regulations put in place to regulate the automated robotics creation. The programmers of the automated robotics should be obtaining licenses from the authorities and they should be guided on what kind of robots they should be developing. With a law in place, and an operational license to be issued, it will be easier for the government to control the robotics and watch over their operations. Another clause of the law should also be enacted to bar industries from replacing the human labor with the automated robotics. This will be in response to the high rates of expected unemployment that is expected to rise with the use of the robots. Artificial intelligence should as well be guided by ethics and codes of conduct that will regulate the kind of innovations made in the field. Identifying Topics Potentially Useful in the Workplace Innovate or perish, topic three in the study has been a positive topic and can be applied in the workplace today. When faced with certain situations that may need more attention and dedication, it will be better to become innovative or the entire project being worked on will perish because of lack of better ideas to support it. Topic eight is also useful in the workplace as it inspires people a lot. The topic creates awareness that progress can only be seen through the path of development. It is a good inspiration to the workplace as it is now clear that if we have to make progress in our places of work, we must be innovative and employ certain development paths that will keep our working system up to date.

Although it is not mandatory for the proprietary company to form a constitution, yet it is advisable for the same so that the effective regulation of the members can get maintained and the directors can work with good faith. Constitutions are mainly based on the redeemable with the option of the shareholders (Anderson et al. 2015). The legal authority of the members ensures that the company was acting in the good faith with all the important necessity. Sec 124 defines about the legal capacity that the members or the directors acting get the control to carry on with some activities for which may not need any forum and the act based on the situation. This section has a critical role in the formation of the business (Bakan 2012). It is paramount for the members acting members since such legal authority given the concern of the situation as well as for the purpose of the security policy (abr.gov.au 2016). Sec 129(1): the essential of the company constitution with the replaceable rules compiled together is mandatory since there must be scope for the amendment made as there are some of the situation which may not comply with the situation that takes place in the business. The combining of the replaceable rules with the actual constitutions helps the company to make the essential changes during the time of the situation when such changes become an absolute necessity (austlii.edu.au 2016). Section 588(M) (3): the clause arises some necessity to the act after the introduction of this section. Here there is an explanation of the creditor who is not liable to get the damage in means of compensation from the directors of the company. The creditors are also known as the investors of the company. Hence, they are liable to get the compensation to the loss occurred to them due to the insolvency of the company as mentioned under the subdivision B. Concerning the section of the act, and the amount is equal to the amount of loss occurred (Dobson 2014). Also, the liquidator of the company is also liable for the compensation provided that the director has been proved for his insolvency (Wright 2014). The Themes and Techniques of the Nunnery scene in Hamlet Essay Example
The Themes and Techniques of the Nunnery scene in Hamlet Paper Hamlets true motives are questionable before he even enters into this fierce confrontation with Ophelia and by the time he storms out of it, we, the reader or audience, are left with very few answers. His manner, in particular his melancholy mood, has been affected by so many factors beforehand that it is almost impossible to source his outburst from any one of them in particular. His mother has remarried too quickly, his father has been recently murdered, he hates his uncle and perhaps most significantly he should be king. His depressing situation has led him to consider suicide and it would appear that Ophelia, although not completely free of blame herself, is the unfortunate scapegoat upon which Hamlet has decided to vent his fury. This conversation, closely watched by Claudius and Polonius, is, in fact, a test. Its supposed to establish whether Hamlets madness stems from his lovesickness over Ophelia or from the death of his father or indeed from one of the many other tragic elements of his predicament. The scene centres around one main dramatic element; does Hamlet know that he is being watched and, if so, at what stage of the scene does he become aware of this? Ophelias first line Good my lord, how does your honour for this many a day? reeks of incompetence and suspicion. The nature of the greeting and the formal manner with which the line is said would arouse the suspicion of Hamlet instantly. It can also be interpreted as Ophelias way of sending a subtle warning to Hamlet or simply an example or Ophelia following Daddys instructions. Line 93 moves away from the formal tone as Ophelia brings up the subject of returning Hamlets love gifts. I have remembrances of yours that I have longi d long to re-deliver, has been clearly rehearsed with the alliterated l and the assonance on the o sound giving Hamlet a massive indication as to the fact that he is being set-up. It is at this point that some productions would decide to make this realisation clear; as done in a Russian version film adaptation directed by Grigori Kozintsev which was released in 1962. In this particular interpretation, Hamlet knocks the said remembrances out of Ophelias hand and onto the floor in a fit of rage as he says No, not I, I never gave you aught. In other productions, as in Kenneth Branaghs 1996 release, the line is said with the simple blunt, dismissive tone with which it is written. Line 93 also raises the question of Hamlets antic disposition it is possible that he is aware of Claudius and Polonius presence in the room and is simply going along with their theory of his madness by denying the fact that he ever gave Ophelia gifts in the first place. If so, this is a canny move to disorientate them. Hamlet may also want to disorientate Ophelia because he is suspicious of her odd behaviour without specifically being aware of the eavesdroppers. It would appear that the value of these presents has deteriorated due to Hamlets lack of love and Shakespeare has emphasised this point particularly well with the use of a rhyming couplet on Lines 100 and 101. This too is ironic because the text suggests that the remembrances had been given to Ophelia while Hamlet was reciting poetry, so this is therefore a snide, below the belt comment that will have had the desired impact. However, this methodical approach is not something that Hamlet would expect from Ophelia and again it sounds rehearsed. Line 103 Ha, ha, are you honest is where the subject and the dramatic dynamics of the scene change. Hamlet goes on the attack his sarcastic tone has come out of the blue, but with Claudius and Polonius watching on, it is, however, impossible to know whether this is genuine or just another attempt to disorientate and go along with his supposed antic disposition. He accuses Ophelia of being corrupt like all women, and, suddenly, Hamlet begins to use certain elements of his depressing life to make his point effectively. He suggests that beauty and virtue are closely linked together and in many productions, as in the Laurence Olivier production of 1948, Hamlet goes on a physical as well as verbal attack of Ophelia often portrayed as helpless. Hamlets disillusion with women almost certainly stems from his mothers actions with his Uncle Claudius; however it is apparent that he once had genuine love for Ophelia as demonstrated by Line 114. This poignant moment in the scene reveals a sense of regret on Hamlets part and leaves Ophelia feeling very vulnerable at this stage. Hamlet continues to emphasise his distrust of women by claiming Ophelia has betrayed him and that she has given in to temptation. In fact, he goes on to say that he himself is a sinner and that all human beings are born into sin; which is a contradiction to what he has just said. It is fair to say, therefore, that Hamlets depressing stance on human beings has been influenced by the corruption in his own life. Ophelia is sometimes portrayed as slightly more aggressive than is described as in the text; as done in Franco Zefirellis 1990 version where Helena Bonham Carter stands up for herself when saying the Line I was the more deceived. On the other hand, this could be seen as another feeble comment that has very little significance in the scene. At this point, however, Hamlet is back on the attack again. This change of dynamics leads him to exploit Ophelias weaknesses. He tells her to go to a Nunnery, which could have been interpreted in two different ways at the time. Hamlet could either be ordering his supposedly deceitful girlfriend to a convent, so she will be protected from the horrible world surrounding them, or to a brothel, because she is corrupt like humanity. Either meaning makes complete sense and is therefore ambiguous; another technique used to tow the line of his antic disposition or indeed his genuine madness. If Hamlet intended to use the latter meaning, he is being extremely insulting to the woman he is supposed to be in love with. It also implies that female sins take the form of sex and that she is weak and open to temptation. This is particularly clever because nunnery is common Elizabethan slang. Hamlets antic disposition first mentioned in Act 1 Scene 5 is a dominant theme in not just this scene but throughout the whole play. He could actually be mad; he has seen the ghost of his father, he has had suicidal tendencies, his friends are spying on him and there is great pressure on him to carry out his revenge. Ophelias betrayal another key theme is also very important. Hamlet blames Ophelia for his madness, supporting Polonius theory that he is love sick, and this could have driven him to a bizarre mental state. Or, he could be both sane and mad at the same time. His antic disposition could be a cover for revenge but while putting on this guise Hamlet may have even convinced himself that he is insane. He could also be genuinely divided; there is great conflict in his life and this could lead him to flash in and out of madness. Corruption is something that is clearly playing on Hamlets mind throughout this scene and it is clear that the recent murder of his father and the swift replacement of him as King by his uncle is becoming too much to handle. However this sequence of events, or at least similar ones, was not uncommon in the Elizabethan world. At the time, incestuous marriages and relationships were widely debated but not as frowned upon as they are now although Hamlet clearly takes the latter view. Hamlets rant continues; he has talked himself into a fit of rage and is almost always portrayed as violent by this stage of the scene to the extent that he is coming across as genuinely mad. He says it would have been better if he himself had not been born; further adding to the aura of insanity surrounding him. He talks about how his revengeful thoughts may have made him stoop to the same level as Claudius and that his proud and ambitious personality has contributed to this. Line 125-126: We are arrant knaves all, believe none of us sums this up particularly well. Perhaps at this point in the scene comes the moment where Hamlet finally comes to a self-realization that the conversation if being overheard unless that happens much earlier on in the scene. Some productions, as in Kenneth Brannaghs, use loud rustling as a rather unsubtle way of drawing Polonius and Claudius to Hamlets attention, whereas in the Lawrence Olivier version, Hamlet is virtually left to pick up on Ophelias body language alone to detect their presence. At this point Ophelia lies. She has gone past a point of no return and Hamlet knows this she has chosen her father and the King over him. Her response to the question Wheres your father? is At home my Lord and although Hamlet knows this is a lie, he decides not to confront her about it. Instead, he uses this as an opportunity to make a bitter, aggressive and public threat to Polonius and Claudius. In fact, Hamlet goes a step further and begins to break off his relationship with Ophelia. He says that bringing more children into the world would be committing more sins and rules out the possibility of marriage his public threat then comes, with him that he will leave all others alone, except Claudius, who he intends to kill. A sane Hamlet would perhaps have left things there, and it is clear that one part of him wants to with the fact that he says Farewell for a third time. However, he continues his onslaught of abuse on Ophelia by saying that she will not escape malicious lies as it is part of her nature, even if she comes across as innocent and virtuous. He says Get thee to a nunnery for the fourth time to emphasise his point further before storming out. Hamlets antic disposition was questionable at the beginning of the scene and is even more so by the end of it. He is clearly love sick because of the frequent contradictions he makes during his break-up speech to Ophelia, yet he sees his once virtuous girlfriend being tarnished by the corruption he sees around him and his desperation for revenge. That, however, does not make him a madman and although it is impossible to know for certain, it would appear that the Nunnery Scene in Hamlet is where all the depressing elements and themes of his life come to a head and that Ophelia is the unfortunate and convenient scapegoat upon which he releases all of his anger.

Father Damien essays
Father Damien essays January 3, 1840, Josef de Veuster is born in Tremeloo, Belgium. Only nineteen years later Josef de Veuster joins the Picpus Fathers of Louvain as a novice. (A novice is a member of a religious order who has not taken any final vows.) Shortly after joining Picpus Fathers, Joseph se Veusters name is changed to, as we know him, Father Damien. October 30, 1863 Damien starts his four-month voyage to the Hawaiian Islands. He arrives in March of 1864. The ship takes him to the city of Honolulu on the Island of Oahu. Honolulu was a city with a busy port and many buildings. A few years later Father Damien moves to Kalaupapa Peninsula to start the bulk of his missionary work. The first night Damien spent the night under a pandanus tree. (A pandanus tree is sometimes called the screw pine, has long roots which raise the trunk three or four feet above the ground level. It forms a cave like shelter beneath the tree.) There was a little chapel in the middle of all the huts they called the village. The chapel seemed abandoned so the first thing that Damien did was to clean the chapel. One of the hardest things about working in the leprocy colony was the smell. The smell from the huts, people, and the graveyard. So wherever Damien went, he smoked his pipe so that a cloud of strong smelling tobacco would surround him. There was so much to be done that Damien didnt know where to start. He needed medicines, bandages, and medical instruments. Damien had no medicines to treat the leprocy. So Damien flooded the government in Hololulu with letters asking for things he needed. Damien got the healthier men to clear patches of land and plant crops. It gave them something to do, and it added to the food supply. But every day people were dying. The people would try their best to burry them, but they could only make shallow graves. That meant that wild pigs would dig up the bodies and scatter their bones. S...

An Assessment of Heroism in the Characters of Gawain and Beowulf
An Assessment of Heroism in the Characters of Gawain and Beowulf Who is more heroic: Gawain or Beowulf? Hero (n): a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities (Merriam-Webster.com). While deciphering the true meaning of heroism for a few minutes something stopped me. In general opinion, most readers would consider Beowulf more heroic. And, according to the pattern of literature, film, and storytelling Beowulf is more heroic. But truly, it depends on which context you are viewing this upon. If we were to read the two stories in the Anglo-Saxon era, of which took place from 410 ââ¬â 1066 AD, we could all agree Beowulf is the true hero. He fought off two monsters and a dragon among other beasts. When he fought Grendel he proclaimed, ââ¬Å"it wonââ¬â¢t be a cutting edge Iââ¬â¢ll wield to mow him down, easily as I mightâ⬠¦ He has no idea of the arts of war, of shield or sword-play, although he does possess a wild strengthâ⬠(Greenblatt, 55). He acknowledges the pure strength of Grendel, and declares he will fight him without weapons because that is the just thing to do. He wants to be fair and square. A cowardly or even just average person would use any advantage to best the monster, but Beowulf has a true inner-courage, incomparable to anyone else in existence. He won battles nobody else could. Gawain had one battle to fight. He only volunteered because nobody else would except for his king, and he kept the ââ¬Å"magical girdleâ⬠instead of show ing up as he promised to (giving the green knight a fair blow to his neck). He was fearful, where Beowulf was not. Beowulf fought bare-handedly when he didnââ¬â¢t even have to. So, physically or externally Beowulf was the true hero. In parallel the two stories yield a different answer, when viewing them from the eyes of a person alive in the 21st century. The true hero comes from within today. For example, someone who can lift three cars has less of a place in society than someone who can travel to third world countries and give food and shelter to those who are unfortunate. Gawain has more inner strength than Beowulf does. For example, in the days leading up to the meeting with the Green Knight, he is tested by temptations. One of those temptations is sex, and yet, despite the Green Knightââ¬â¢s wifeââ¬â¢s strong sex appeal, he turns her away in the nicest way possible. The Green Knight was testing Gawain up until the moment he struck him with the axe. Gawain, fearful, kept the girdle that the Green Knightââ¬â¢s wife gave him because he believed itââ¬â¢s magical powers would save him. Therefore, he broke his promise. He was supposed to bear his neck, no shield, no protection. He lost his ââ¬Å"tr othâ⬠or his word by wearing that girdle. When he finds out that the Green Knight was testing him in his ability to keep his troth he was furious. He admitted, ââ¬Å" Dread of the death blow and cowardly doubts meant I gave into greed, and in doing so forgot the freedom and fidelity every knight knows to followâ⬠(Greenblatt, 235). After that the Green Knight forgives him because, like the readers, he sees Gawainââ¬â¢s strength in admitting his downfall and being truthful and regretful in the end. Beowulf is the opposite. He is egotistical and arrogant. Yes, he is significantly strong, but it is never enough. He always wants more. He always wants the fame, as when he left his men behind to take on the dragon, alone, despite his old age. Beowulfââ¬â¢s fault led him to his death, whereas Gawainââ¬â¢s humility saved his life. In todayââ¬â¢s world all of us are faced with numerous different amounts of temptation. It speaks a lot to ones character to avoid them, and to speak for themselves in regret when they falter in their ability to deny those temptations. Gawain does this, when Beowulf is blind to his own faults. Today, Gawain would be the true hero. This is why when reading and interpreting the texts we must always consider context. Gawain is the real ââ¬Å"person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualitiesâ⬠(Merriam-Webster). Gawain is the indisputable hero.

International marketing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
International marketing - Essay Example Similarly, the increase in the competitiveness nature of international markets calls for improved quality and advancement in the production techniques (Ronkainen, 2005, p.97-8). The entry strategies in an international category involves making decisions on the goals and objectives of the firm, choice of the products/services, market penetration modes, and performance monitoring and control systems which are deemed appropriate for the market. After evaluating its potential, strengths, capacities, and limitations, a corporation then figures going multinational. Exploring an international market with more promising potential involves market screening of all the potential markets. The screening exercise is conducted based on economic, cultural, and political factors which have the potential of affecting operations of the firm in the foreign market (Keegan, & Schlegelmilch, 2011, p.37). Besides, geographical factors and demographic variables must be given close attention. These include lo cation, composition of the potential target consumers (based on gender, age, income, culture, and family structures), political and economic environment (covering from legal regulations, duties and taxes, to consumer protection standards), and market characteristics. Being the fundamental factors under investigation, size, level of competition, and distribution agents with the marketing environment must be valued (Root, 2009, p.56). Otherwise, if these factors are not considered, then the firm will not succeed in the foreign market as it will fail to command the much needed market share. The selection of an overseas market is conducted in five stages. The first stage entails conducting an investigation on the domestic market regulations and management preferences. The second stage involves conducting an initial entry assessment programs. The third and the fourth steps are conducting a survey on the competitiveness and market responses respectively. The final step in exploring foreig n market entails a detailed analysis of international trade-off possibilities (Wolfgang, 2008, p.67). After the completion of market selection, a firm then plans her entry strategy. A number of entry strategy options are made available for firms to choose from. Firms may either choose for enter the foreign market through distributors or agents or through direct methods such as partnerships, alliances, direct sales promotion, or agreements (Johansson, 2007, p.75). The method of market entry adopted by the foreign firm venturing in a new market significantly affects the outcome and success of the firm. These entry strategies may be undertaken in form of licensing, joint venture, exporting, and direct investments. However, independent of the entry strategy chosen by a firm, their access to the market is limited. Though using intermediaries and agents results into a fasters and greater command of the market, it is relatively costly and very bureaucratic (Pan, & Tse, 2007, p.87). This im plies that the venturing/investing firm has no direct control of the market and neither has any direct link with the customers/consumers. On the other hand, direct entry methods are better in building personalized market understanding, it is limited with the fact that the foreign firm will not have any control of the ma

Does organic pollution affect E.Coli growth Essay
Does organic pollution affect E.Coli growth - Essay Example The paper tells that biological analysis of water to detect and quantify water pollution is a non-sensitive process. Microbes such as E.coli, which is a fecal contaminant, are able to survive the effects of water pollution through genetic adaptation. The changes in cellular metabolism that take place during this adaptation can be detected at a sensitive level, such as the quantity of E.coli in the water, or the amount of stress proteins being synthesized by the bacteria. Therefore, E.coli can act as a bio-indicator of water pollution. My research question and experiments were designed to study what effects take place on the growth and protein synthesis of E.coli when the bacteria is exposed to environmental stress. The growth of E.coli from lakewater was also compared with that of genetically engineered E.coli DH-5, to determine whether plasmid-mediated mutations assist in the survival of lakewater E.coli under environmental stress. My results showed that DH-5 was inhibited by the po llutant benzene and by high and low pH and temperatures. E.coli from lakewater survived in a greater quantity under these stressors compared t the genetically engineered strain DH-5. Also, the growth of E.coli from lakewater was inhibited to a small extent by the stress of temperature and pH change until a limit. Beyond these limits in the conditions, E.coli could not grow at all. Thus, the adaptation of E.coli to pollution is a characteristic with limitations. In conclusion, the changes in the growth and protein synthesis of E.coli under stress makes it suitable as a bio-indicator of water pollution. Further studies are needed to examine the usefulness of detecting synthesis of specific stress proteins by E.coli as sensitive bio-markers of water pollution. Table of Contents Interest in Topic 5 Introduction 6 Methods 8 Results 12 Discussion, Conclusions and Limitations 13, 14 Images 15 Bibliography 21 Interest in Topic My selection of my research topic is based on my interest in con ducting biological research, my concerns regarding environmental pollution, and my ambition to reduce the consequences of pollution through the results of my research work. I have been highly concerned regarding the many severely polluted water sources in my environment that I have observed. Various unchecked and unregulated commercial and industrial activities near rivers and lakes have released harmful substances into the water, destroying the ecology of these areas. I learned that to prevent and correct these changes, monitoring of the water quality and changes taking place in the aquatic environment are necessary. I have always been fascinated by the science of how some microorganisms work to solve the problem of pollution by producing signals and changes. I was also interested in learning how biological studies are used to derive information and understanding of the many mechanisms happening in our surroundings. After background reading, I developed an interest towards solving the problem of effective biological water analysis, which would

Grapes of Wrath :: essays papers
Grapes of Wrath The Grapes of Wrath: The Purpose of the Interchapters Initially, I found the interchapters to be annoying, interruptions to the story. It was only when I realized the point in having the interchapters that I understood that not only did they not interrupt the story, but they added to it tremendously. The interchapters provide indirect comments or general situations which suggest something about the personal tragedies of the main characters. These comments and situations help give the reader an understanding of what the characters are going through by either showing metaphorically their present or future triumphs and struggles or explaining the history of the period that they lived in. Chapter three is an interchapter. It describes a concrete highway that a land turtle struggled to cross. The turtle was finally almost there when it was hit by a truck and its shell was chipped and it was thrown on its back. The turtle had to struggle even hard but it did get going again. This chapter represented the continual struggle of that the Joads would have to face throughout the entire story. Throughout the novel the Joads meet many hardships. They are forced to leave their home, lose family members such as the grandparents and Noah, work for low wages, and suffer from hunger floods and cruel prejudices in California. But, just as the turtle refused to be swayed from his purpose so will the Joads. Chapter five is an interchapter that discusses a tractors hired by banks or a corporations that would come to the land and plow through it, destroying everything in its path. The chapter is an abstract conflict between the tenant farmer and the banks and shows the pain of a tenant farmer upon leaving the land that was settled by their grandfather. The tenant farmer was so upset that he threatened to shoot the driver . Another chapter describes a tenant farmer who has to leave and is cheated into paying to much for a car. Chapter nine describes the generalized families who must sell their sentimental goods at absurdly low prices. These chapters present the situations which the Joads come across very soon. The Joads have to leave their land and sell all their things.

Advantages of Group Decision-Making Essay
Firstly, group decision making from experts in different areas is beneficial to solve complicate problems. For instance, in a small company, boss often makes suggestions by himself; the result of his behavior relies on the ability of the boss. So there are cases when he canââ¬â¢t make things right, which may be serious fault to the operation of a company. However, people with different backgrounds consider the problems more carefully and comprehensively, as a result, running the company will be in less risk. Secondly, people making decisions in groups are eager to bear more risks individually. Decisions come with risks. People who make the wrong decision will take the responsibility. A contradiction rises up when they attempt to avoid being wrong and at the same time, solve problems correctly. As a result, people will somewhat not dare to make the final decision. Nevertheless, group decision makers can share the risks because each of them has responsibility for the suggestions to the problem. Moreover, individual risks are decreased when some others rectify the suggestion for him or her. 2.Disadvantages of group decision-making Firstly, low efficiency in decision-making, everyone has his own opinions and under certain circumstances such as brainstorming, it costs more time to decide what to do by group decision-making than by personal decision-making. If things go well, the results will come out quickly. But if each of them in a group canââ¬â¢t comprise in the end, nothing will be achieved. For example, there is news from CCTV about the 2012 DOHA Climate Change Conference, â⬠Nearly 200 countries haggling over how to stop climate change ââ¬â and how to pay for it ââ¬â failed to reach a deal on schedule Friday. That sets the stage for the wrangling to continue late into the night.â⬠Things like these are usually occurred when a large number of people attend. Finally, the conference extended until they arrive at an agreement. Secondly, group decision-making will lose effectiveness when people are not likely to put up with suggestions out of some reasons. In such cases, the leader of the group will be the only one who does decision-making, which has no diffidence with personal decision-making. All the members of the group should have equal opportunities and are willing to speak out. Then, group decision-making functions better in dealing with problems.

Egg and Soda Dental Experiments
If you have a hard time getting your child to brush his teeth, it might be time to try the egg and soda experiment to explore the concept of dental health. In theory, a hard-boiled eggââ¬â¢s shell works similarly to the enamel on a childââ¬â¢s tooth. Itââ¬â¢s there to protect the soft inside, or dentin, from damage. Unfortunately, some of our eating and drinking habits make it difficult for the enamel to protect our teeth from damage, and the egg and soda experiment demonstrates how our dietary choices can impact our bodies. What You Will Need This simple experiment doesnt need a lot of expensive supplies. In fact, they are affordable and youll likely have most of them already in your home. If not, you can easily find them at your local grocery store. 3 white-shelled hard-boiled eggssodadiet sodawatera toothbrush and toothpaste3 clear plastic cups Before the Egg and Soda Experiment Start by talking to your child about good dental hygiene practices and how important it is to brush their teeth every day, making sure to explain how certain foods, drinks, and activities can stain and damage teeth. You might also want to discuss how drinking a lot of acidic beverages can erode the outside of teeth. Ask your child to come up with a few types of drinks that might hurt their teeth. They might have answers like soda, coffee, or juice because of sugar and acid. You might also want to ask your child to think of drinks that might be better for their teeth. Most likely, theyll come up with something like milk and water. You can also ask your child if they think brushing after drinking some of the drinks that could hurt their teeth could reduce the risk of damage. Explain the Experiment Tell your child you have a way to find out what might happen if he left those drinks on his teeth overnight. Show him a hard-boiled egg and ask him how it reminds him of his teeth (a hard but thin outer shell and a soft inside). Take some time to ask your child what might happen to the egg if you leave it soaking in soda overnight, as compared to water. You might also consider different types of soda and if dark sodas, like colas, might have different effects on teeth than clear sodas, like lemon-lime sodas. Perform the Experiment Boil the eggs, making sure to have a few extra in case some of them crack while you boil them. A cracked shell will change the results of the experiment.Help your child fill each of the plastic cups, one with regular soda, one with diet soda, and one with water.Once the eggs have cooled, have your child put one in each cup and leave it overnight.Ask your child to check the eggs the next day. You may need to pour the liquid out of the cup to see how each egg has been affected. Most likely, the eggs in the cola have been stained by the liquid overnight.Discuss the changes you see in each egg and ask your child what they think happened. Then ask what they think you can do to ââ¬Å"helpâ⬠the eggs that have been immersed in soda get back to their original state (no stains).Give your child a toothbrush and some toothpaste to see if he can brush the stains off the eggshell. As a variation, you might also want to boil a few extra eggs and add cups with clear soda, orange juice, and coffee for comparison. Conclusions There are two main things you and your child can take away from this experiment. The first is that, as reported in the journal General Dentistry, the citric and phosphoric acid contained in soda has enormous potential to erode tooth enamel. In fact, one study reported that soda is 10 times more erosive than fruit juice in the first few minutes after drinking it. The second takeaway, and easier for your child to see, is that it takes more than just a couple of quick swipes of the toothbrush to get teeth clean. Try helping your child time to see how long it takes to brush the majority of the egg stains.
